In late 2023, RMC was commissioned to provide detailed reports and system designs for the upgrade of over 300 CCTV cameras across 28 council-owned and managed housing blocks in Brentwood, Essex.
Working closely with Brentwood Council’s Community Safety Team and Housing Officers, RMC staff conducted site visits to each location. Problematic areas with a history of anti-social behaviour or safety concerns were identified to ensure the new CCTV systems would deliver effective, comprehensive coverage.
Each site received a tailored report outlining key details including recommended camera makes and models, lens types, positioning, and fields of view. For several housing blocks located near one another, RMC designed a robust wireless networking infrastructure using UniFi point-to-point links, enabling seamless system connectivity. We also designed the entire networking backbone to support the upgraded CCTV systems.
In accordance with procurement best practices and to maintain transparency, RMC did not apply for the installation tender. The contract was ultimately awarded to Nomico, who carried out the physical works throughout 2023 and 2024. Nomico did a fantastic job with the installation, overcoming a number of challenges in some of the blocks.
CCTV in residential environments like these plays a vital role in improving community safety, deterring crime, and offering residents greater peace of mind. Our system designs not only support the Council’s commitment to safer neighbourhoods, but also provide a scalable, future-ready platform for ongoing property security.
