Securing a high-risk vacant retail site – Homebase, Catford

When retail giant Homebase entered administration in late 2024, around 133 UK stores were left vacant, leaving many sites at risk of trespass, theft, and vandalism.

One of the largest properties – the former Homebase flagship store in Catford, South London, built on the historic site of Peter Pan’s Playground and Pool – quickly became a magnet for criminal activity and urban explorers. In June 2025, 365 Group Business Solutions was tasked with securing the site and partnered with RMC to implement a rapid, high-spec CCTV and intrusion detection solution.

Several covert and overt HD cameras were deployed at key access points and vulnerable areas, all connected via 5G to our 24/7 Operational Control Centre. The system was installed and live within two hours, enabling immediate remote monitoring and incident detection.

Our Operational Control Centre maintains direct telephone contact with on-site security personnel at all times, enabling real-time collaboration and rapid response to any suspicious activity or threat. This integrated approach to vacant property security ensures full situational awareness and fast decision-making.

Since installation, despite multiple attempted break-ins, no successful intrusions have occurred. The store has remained secure, allowing it to be safely prepared for handover to new owners.

RMC’s rapid deploy systems offer a proven, effective solution for vacant property security across the UK – helping commercial property owners protect their assets with confidence.
