The Safer Parks initiative. Creating a welcoming and safe outdoor experience for everyone.

In the UK, our public parks and urban green spaces have always played a major role in improving the state of our mental health.

Now, more than ever, this connection to nature is critical for our emotional well-being. Since COVID-19, appreciation for our local parks, gardens and other outdoor open spaces has skyrocketed. People have developed a new understanding of the personal benefits, as well as the social and cultural advantages, of being outdoors.

However, anti-social behaviour and low-level crime in these places can be intimidating for many visitors.

The Safer Parks team are passionate about ensuring our outdoor spaces are welcoming and accessible for all. Through our initiative, we work with park owners, local authorities, and the police to create customised security solutions that make our outdoor spaces more enjoyable.

The initiative aims to prevent low-level crime and antisocial behaviour through Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled CCTV cameras, along with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), manned patrols, parking and littering enforcement.

Our highly-trained and fully SIA accredited uniformed and plain-clothed security officers work closely with our CCTV control room operators to deal with the issues brought to our attention by park visitors and the local community. Many of these reports involve minor or civil offences such as littering, fly-tipping, nuisance vehicles, parking, drug and alcohol abuse, and other intimidating and anti-social behaviour.

This activity is dealt with on the spot – often without police involvement which means their time is not wasted on petty crime.
