Securing a high-risk vacant retail site – Homebase, Catford

20 July 2025

When retail giant Homebase entered administration in late 2024, around 133 UK stores were left vacant, leaving many sites at risk of trespass, theft, and vandalism.

One of the largest affected locations was the Catford store — a high-profile site requiring an immediate, robust security presence to protect the premises and surrounding area.

Our approach

RMC deployed a comprehensive security solution combining temporary CCTV towers, manned guarding, and rapid response coverage. The deployment was mobilised within 24 hours of instruction, securing the site against unauthorised access.

Working closely with 365 Group Business Solutions, we delivered an integrated approach that combined physical presence with intelligent surveillance — ensuring the site remained monitored around the clock.

Outcome

The Catford site was secured throughout the administration period with zero reported incidents of trespass or vandalism. The solution is now being rolled out to additional vacant retail locations as part of a wider regeneration project nearby.
